BANGI: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is on the right track to becoming a well-known and respectable agency locally and abroad, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot.
Apart from excellent leadership of its chairman, Tan Seri Lee Lam Thye, NIOSH had also forged close cooperation with similar agencies in other countries, including the recent exchange of information and knowledge with the Finland Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), to improve its skills, knowledge and information related to occupational safety and health, he said.
"I’m very proud of NIOSH’s achievements so far and how, at the same time, the management seems to keep on striving to find the best methods to improve the quality of its service delivery,” he said at the NIOSH’s Aidilfitri do here today.
Also present were Lee and NIOSH executive director Zahrin Osman.
Meanwhile, Lee said the most meaningful achievement of the institute was when it was given an important role in the implementation of the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) project for the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line, which will become fully operational on July 17.
Lee said under the agreement signed between MRT Corporation Sdn Bhd, MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (PDP SSP) and CIDB Holding in September 2015, NIOSH was given a role to oversee the whole aspect of safety and health of the workers involved.
“The opportunity to contribute towards safe and smooth running of the MRT development project was something every NIOSH personnel should be proud of because it was the most-awaited iconic transportation project,” he said.
The MRT project, carried out since 2010, is a modern transportation system in which the train has a high frquency rate at 3.3 minute during peak hour for every train which has a capacity of 1,200 people at one time.
